Steingraeber & Söhne came up with a new innovation in 2022/2023 - narrower keyboards to suit those with smaller hands.
The average keyboard in modern times has octaves spanning 6.5 inches. However, Steingraeber has created narrower keys with octaves spanning only 5.5 inches.
There are several reason why a pianist might want narrower keys - it might suit them better, they might find it easier to play, they might have a medical condition that affects their hands or their ability to play or there might be a historical reason (such as playing music for the harpsichord).
