Song of the Week 22/8/2023

 

This week for Song of the Week, we have Misterioso - a jazz piece by the renowned jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk. Misterioso is a particular favourite of Aaron, director of Shackleford Pianos. He loves the way the piece begins with a simple melodic phrase, only to develop with more layers of music and instrumentation. To quote Aaron -

 

"It starts off like a very simple thing but it develops into a very complex jazz ensemble. I first heard that music listening to my Walkman on the tram."
